“A good book is like a landmark that we can refer to in space and time. And those who print books every day and are familiar with this craft are well aware that books represent the best way of commiting a story to paper.”
(Lucio Passerini).
The anniversary of the first 50 years of Grafiche Antiga’s business history offers a valid pretext for creating a work, rich in images and content, which not only traces the history of the museum, but above all puts it in the spotlight materials and documents of absolute value. And the book itself becomes a journey into printing, with the clever use of papers and techniques that know how to add ‘character’ to a book printed in the digital age, starting above all from the three lettepress printed inserts from historical typefaces from the collection of Tipoteca.
Designed by the London graphic designer Simon Esterson, with the visual narration of the photographer Claudio Rocci and the texts of Italian and foreign scholars, Tipoteca. Una storia italiana is a tribute to the beauty of the book and typography, with a particular emphasis on typefaces and printing presses, an authentic historical heritage saved by Tipoteca and still made accessible to the public thanks to years of commitment and passion.
